I mentioned a few weeks back that I was thinking of starting a blog concentrating only on Spain.
It was really just a thought and I wasn’t sure I’d actually do anything about it. But I started receiving a lot of questions from Canadians and Americans interested in knowing more about Spain. It struck me there aren’t many Spanish blogs written by North Americans.
I decided to go ahead and just a few days ago, our new Spain-only blog went live.
So why a new Spanish blog?
1) I didn’t want to inundate readers of The Travels of Bbqboy and Spanky with content that’s “all Spain, all the time”. This blog has covered many different destinations and a variety of topics having to do with travel over the last 7 years. That’s the way I want to keep it – I like having the freedom to write about any and all things that come to mind on this website.
2) Our new website will be a niche blog. It will only be about Spain. I’ll write about our lives as Expats in Spain but I will also cover a wider range of topics having to do with Spain: destinations in Spain, food, wine, culture, hiking, cycling, as well as any other things that come to mind that are specific to Spain. It will still be a personal blog but it cover a much wider range of topics. We’re hoping that Spain will be our new home for a long time – so it just made sense to have a site dedicated exclusively to Spain.
3) I want to do things differently. Posts on the Travels of Bbqboy and Spanky tend to be lengthy and more general. I’ll write for example about “7 Things to see in Granada”. On our new blog, I want to drill down in detail. I might, for example, have a post on the Basilica of San Juan de Dios in Granada, one of the most beautiful and ornate churches we’ve seen in Spain. I might write about Churros, or about the Parrots you see flying in Malaga province. Blog posts on our new Spanish website will be much more on point and shorter and because of that I’ll be posting more frequently than I do on the Travels of Bbqboy and Spanky.
I will always maintain both websites and will continue to post regularly on each. There will a be a bit of overlap on some topics. I can’t help that. But my general rule is that content on the new website will cater specifically – and in detail – to those interested in travelling to Spain and/or looking to settle in Spain as we have.
Our new Website: Mappingspain.com
So why “Mapping Spain”? Spain is still a pretty new destination for us and we’ll be discovering it over the next few years, thereby “mapping” Spain in our own way.
