The Best hotels in Budapest (for all budgets).
One of our favorite cities in the world, we’ve been to Budapest many times.
But where to stay when visiting Budapest?
In this post I cover the “Best” Hotels; “Best” meaning “good value”, and by that I mean getting your money’s worth whether staying in a 5-star hotel or in budget accommodation.
I give you some options below in different price categories (High-end, Mid-range, Budget). I even include family-friendly apartments and hostels.
Note: I’ve given you Booking.com ratings and pricing as of October 2024. Pricing is for indication purposes only and can change depending on your dates.
High-end
Budapest has some wonderful 5-star hotels in historic buildings that were built during the golden age of the city. They’re attractions in themselves and will take your breath away.
Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace Budapest
This huge, beautiful building lies right in front of the Chain bridge and is steps from the historic center of Budapest. It has everything you’d expect of a 5-star hotel: an infinity-edge pool, a fitness room and a restaurant and bar which overlooks the Danube. It’s the most expensive of the hotels on this list (with rooms starting at over 600 Euros) and that doesn’t even include breakfast (an additional 60 Euros). Still, if you want Four Seasons luxury, this is it. It gets a 9.3 rating on Booking.com.

Matild Palace
A great location in one of Budapest’s most glorious buildings (an old palace). Next to Váci Street, Ferenciek tere (one of our favorite squares in Budapest) and within an easy walk of all the historic sites of Budapest. A 5-star hotel with a fitness centre, private parking, a terrace, sauna and a Michelin star restaurant. Matild Palace gets a 9.5 rating on Booking.com and rooms start at around 370 Euros.

Aria Hotel Budapest
A 5-star hotel near St. Stephen’s Basilica and within steps of Elisabeth Square, one of the major downtown squares of Budapest. Also nearby is upscale Andrássy Avenue. You’re really in the heart of the city here.
A classy and chic hotel with a music theme (rooms are named after different artists). It has a spa, an excellent restaurant and a rooftop bar with views of the city. Aria Hotel gets a 9.6 score among reviewers and rooms start around 530 Euros (including a full breakfast).

Anantara New York Palace Budapest
This incredible building was constructed for the New York Insurance Company in the late 19th century. You might know of it because of its famous café (the New York Café), one of the most beautiful cafés in Budapest (or anywhere. It is incredible).
This is a dramatic hotel with all the amenities you could wish for: a spa with steam room, sauna and tea lounge, an atmospheric relaxation pool, two well-equipped gyms, and several places to eat including the famed café. The only negative to tell you the truth is the location: on Budapest’s main boulevard and a bit away from the attractions of the historic center. Despite that, the hotel gets a 9.3 score among reviewers (rooms start around 300 Euros).

Párisi Udvar Hotel Budapest
Another magnificent building that epitomizes Budapest. Built in the early 1800’s, it was a neoclassical shopping arcade modelled after the Passage des Panoramas in Paris (hence the name of the hotel today).
The Párisi Udvar has one of the most incredible lobbies in the world, a 19th-century covered arcade that feels like a cross between a gothic cathedral and an Ottoman palace. The hotel has spa services, a gym and a small pool. Rooms are large and modern, you even have your own Nespresso machine. And the location is perfect near Ferenciek tere (you’re across the street from the Matild Palace which I covered above). The hotel gets a 9.3 rating and rooms start at 300 Euros.

Gerlóczy Boutique Hotel
A stylish hotel that’s well-located and great value for money. Downstairs is an excellent café-bar (popular among locals) that serves Hungarian dishes. This is not a 5-star and you won’t have a spa or gym or even room service, but they give you an entirely free minibar with sparkling wine, soft drinks and homemade cookies. That’s something rare.
Prices start around 120 Euros and the hotel gets a 9.1 rating with reviewers.

Roombach Hotel Budapest Center
A modern hotel in the center of everything. You’re near Deák Ferenc Square and in the heart of the Jewish district among the ruin bars and restaurants that populate this area. If you’re looking for action and nightlife this is a great place to be.
It’s your typical Mid-range hotel but Roombach does it well. Service is excellent, rooms are clean and comfortable, staff is helpful. With rooms starting at around 115 Euros it’s good value. Reviews give Roombach Hotel a 9.0 score.

Callas House
On upscale Andrássy Avenue near the Opera House, this is a stylish 4-star hotel with excellent value pricing (starting at 108 Euros – including breakfast – when I looked up the most recent pricing).
Everything is tastefully done and although you won’t find a spa or fitness center, you’ll be impressed by the elegance of this building (built in the late 1800’s by a wealthy banker). Downstairs is the Callas restaurant which specializes in typical Hungarian cuisines. Rated a 9.1 by reviewers.
