The Best Hotels in Split (Croatia).
One of our favorite cities in the world, we’ve been many times and even lived a year in Split.
But where to stay when visiting Split?
In this post I cover the “Best” Hotels; “Best” meaning “good value”, and by that I mean getting your money’s worth whether staying in a 5-star hotel or in budget accommodation.
I give you some options below in different price categories (High-end, Mid-range, Budget). At the bottom of this post I also cover what to see and do in Split and around.
High-end
Note: some of these hotels can be incredibly expensive in summer, going up to close to 900 Euros per night at the Heritage Hotel Antique Split. But come in the off-season and the same room will go for less than 200 Euros (as I always tell people, Split is always best visited anytime other than summer). So keep in mind that prices for Split’s high-end hotels are very variable.
Heritage Hotel Antique Split
One of the few hotels actually located within Diocletian’s Palace. You can look out your window at the belltower of Saint Domnius Cathedral. Stunning location and you’re close to all of Split’s highlights.
Very comfortable rooms with high end amenities and there’s a buffet style breakfast where you can order eggs or pancakes.
But what you’re really paying for here is luxury within walls built by the Romans in the early 4th century. That’s incredible.

Hotel Vestibul Palace & Villa
A chic boutique hotel with only 11 rooms: 7 rooms in the main building along with a restaurant…and 4 more rooms in a nearby Palace. This hotel is very highly rated, known for its personalized service. It has large rooms with contemporary furnishings and high-end amenities. A great buffet breakfast with made-to-order options. You can have lunch and supper in their restaurant which cooks local specialities (you also have a lot of very nice restaurants in the vicinity so you won’t go hungry).
The location is perfect, in the center of the old town within steps of Diocletian’s Palace. Really, it’s excellent and everyone raves about this hotel.

Hotel Park Split
This large hotel is situated outside the old town right next to Bacvice beach. It is one of Split’s institutions and is always a favorite – an old world hotel with tons of services (pool, spa services, fitness center, terrace, 3 excellent restaurants).
If you want to relax, Hotel Park is the place. Note however that it is about a 10-minute walk from the old town so it’s not ideal if you’re on limited time and your main objective is sightseeing.

Mid-range
There aren’t many hotels that fit into the mid-range category. You’re actually better off finding an apartment (which you can find on Booking.com or Airbnb).
But here are a couple of exceptions:
Jupiter Luxury Hotel
Why would I put a “luxury” Hotel in the Mid-range section? This hotel (which is perfectly located right in the middle of Diocletian’s Palace) often offers specials for under 100 Euros/night including breakfast. Off-season prices go as low as 76 Euros/night which is incredible considering its location.
Don’t get too excited: the hotel gets very mixed reviews. In fact people say this is more like a 3-star hotel than a 4-star luxury hotel. Everyone loves the location but some people complain about the service, amenities that don’t always work and a warm breakfast that’s served cold. But for every bad review there’s an enthusiastic one.
If you can book a room here for under 100 Euros it is a deal just because of the extraordinary location.

Hostel BB
Unlike many hostels that have dorm beds only, this hostel has 2 or 3 twin beds per room with private bathroom. So if you’re a couple, you and your wife can have your own room and bathroom. Very modern, clean, close to beaches. They have a fitness center and you can have a breakfast included in your room rate (which, at the time of writing starts at 50 Euros/night for a 2 bed room).
The only downside to the hostel is that you are about a 15-minute walk to the old center of Split. But an upside is that it is located to one of the entrances to Marjan Hill Park so you have easy access to walking trails and beaches.
Overall, this is an excellent mid-range/budget option in Split.

Budget
AI Hostel
This is a traditional hostel with dorm beds in either mixed dormitory rooms or female-only dormitory rooms. Very modern, clean and an excellent breakfast is included. AC, wifi and a fitness center. The hotel is located about 5 minutes outside the north gate of the old town which makes this a convenient location.
A dorm bed with breakfast included starts at 43 Euros at the time of writing. Excellent budget option.

Hostel Dvor
Another excellent Hostel with dorm beds. Very clean, modern with good breakfast. AC, wifi, and with TVs in all the rooms. In a traditional building in Varos which is Split’s oldest neighbourhood and located just outside Diocletian’s Palace (great neighbourhood).
A dorm bed with breakfast included starts at 56 Euros at the time of writing. Excellent budget option.

I visited Split last year as the final port of an 8 day small ship cruise. I wished I would have had more time to explore and I would stay at Hotel Park! Thanks for all of the great resources. I am pinning for my next trip to Croatia. izzy
